The nights are getting a big shorter and the sun is rising a bit later in the morning. It seems as if we school begins that you begin to notice how the sun is shifting. If you are mindful, you will notice that the birds are responding to the gradual changes in the rising and setting of the sun.
Our dilemma as humans is that we are exposed to artificial light which may throw our biological clocks out of sync with these gradual shifts in the rising and setting of the sun.
Light is the principal control of our day-night cycle, influencing everything from body temperature to metabolism to sleep. To set your day up to experience greater success, enjoyment, focus and fulfillment, try to get some natural sunlight for 30-45 minutes within an hour of getting out of bed. If you wear sunglasses, then you will not get the optimal effect, but you also want to be sure to use sunscreen.
After I finish this post, I am going to put on tennis shoes and head off for a walk down one of my favorite paths along the Fox River in Illinois.
