We stay at hotels for a number of reasons, but great sleep is key!
Do you suffer from the first night effect?
If you slept at a hotel or motel for the first-time last night and you tossed and turned, then unfortunately that’s normal. Scientists call this the First Night Effect. It makes sense that your body would be in a state of hyper-alertness and hyper-vigilance staying in a strange city, strange place, and sleeping in a strange bed.
You want to relax and slink into sleep easily and stay asleep, but your mind is saying, “There is danger in this strange setting (even if you paid $595 per night) and you better not sleep too soundly.” As a result, you don’t quite sleep too well.
The good news is that there is no such thing as a Second Night Effect or even Third Night Effect. You will adjust and sleep better and better as time progresses unless you switch to a new hotel.
