If you happen to be in the South Loop in Chicago, you may see me standing outside this building…intentionally exposing myself to light.
Don’t get me wrong…I love Fall with the beautiful colors and refreshing coolness but I hate getting up and it’s dark and then coming home and it’s dark. And during the work day, if I am not fully mindful about intentionally getting natural light, then I can spend an entire day with hardly any natural light.
That’s bad for my mood, performance, relationships and health. The remedy is fairly straightforward-get some natural light. How will I intentionally get natural light today?
- Walk the “long way” from the L (elevated train) station to my office.
- Grab some lunch outside not inside my building.
- During the afternoon about 2 hours after lunch, take the elevator downstairs and go outside and just expose myself to the natural sun for about 15 minutes. Did you know there are 1440 minutes in the day? If you don’t have time for 15 minutes, then something is wrong.
